The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214s

Online: http://vetrecs.archives.gov/

This may be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his DD-214
for employment purposes. NPRC is working to make it easier for veterans
with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents from  their military files.

Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to request
documents. Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard Form 180, which can be downloaded from the online web site.
Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these
pressing time.
Please pass this information on to former military personnel you may know and their dependents

On February 27th our post had the honor of being invited to attend and participate in a presentation and tribute to a fallen hero, Sgt. Paul Ray Smith. Sgt Smith was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor Posthumously in a very elaborate 3 day ceremony at the White House and Arlington National Cemetery back in 2003. Sgt. Smith was killed in action in a battle at the Bagdad airport on April 4th of that year.

A generous donor and true American Patriot by the name of Karl Robinson living in Arizona shipped a magnificent grandfather clock by van. Mr. Robinson’s nephew, Jim Hawkins and his Uncle Roy did the driving all the way from Arizona to deliver and present this clock to the mother and stepfather of Sgt. Smith, Janice and Donald Pvirre at their home 2405 Westland Way, Acworth, Ga. 30102. Mr. Robinson has donated some 15 of these clocks to the survivors of a loved one who died in the military service of his country. Three Legionnaires present were Michael Sarris, Fred Schaefer and  Martin Inman, Major, US Army, Active.( A real nice touch to have a uniformed Army officer present) Cmdr. Sarris opened the event with a few well chosen words and expressions. The presentation of this magnificent clock was made by Jim Hawkins and Major Inman read the special scrolled tribute. A reporter and photographer from the Cherokee Tribune covered the event. Photos and story of this event can also be viewed on the following website in the Friday Feb 29th edition: www.cherokeetribune.com .Follow the links: Click “News”.For photos look on left side and scroll down until you see ”reprints and photos”. Our post should be proud to have been part of this very significant event honoring a fallen hero and his parents.
