SEASONS GREETINGS, COMRADES

The holiday season is with us and again a time to share our friendships, love and spirit of giving to those less fortunate. And of course prayers for our loved ones who may be experiencing illness or have other great needs, those of our fellow man in need and for the safety of our troops in harm’s way, peace in the Middle East and in the whole world!

November was an outstanding month as usual in seeing so many events honoring our veterans past and present. Our post members participated or attended many of these to include E.T. Booth Middle School, Arnold Mill School, River Eves Elementary, Veterans Appreciation Dinner at the Canton Moose Lodge and Veterans Day parades at Holly Springs and Canton. Many other Legionnaires throughout our state of all ranks attended many, many other events held throughout our great state. We are proud of every Legionnaire who displayed their caps at these events and who made our presence visible to the communities in this state.  For those of you who could not attend any of these events there will be the opportunity again next year.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

The Wreaths Across America(.org) is sponsoring their annual event but this time their wreath laying ceremonies will be on a national basis at all VA Cemeteries, on foreign soil and even aboard ships. This will include our very own cemetery in Canton to be held on Saturday, December 15th 12 Noon. Volunteers from our post are needed to lay some 500 wreaths at each cemetery section prior to the ceremony and should report to the site no later than 9:30AM. If you wish to participate in this very noble affair please contact  2Lt Evanthe at 404-210-1442. This is a public affair and so anyone and everyone is invited to view this ceremony. Senator Johnny Isakson and other public officials will be speaking so as to make this an outstanding patriotic event. Outdoor seating will be provided and if weather not cooperating the ceremony will be moved indoors.

Saturday December 1st the city of Woodstock will be hosting it annual Holiday Jubilee with a parade and ending with festivities at the downtown city park. A great event for both young….and old! Our post will have vehicle entries and if you care to join us we will be lining up at 3:00PM with the step off at 4:00PM. (Be there no later than 3:30!)

Sunday, December 23rd  at 6:00PM we will be having a combined Christmas Dinner with Holly Springs Post 221 at their post home. There will be no business meeting and dress can be casual. This will be a covered dish affair with those attending are asked to bring a small to medium size casserole or a dessert. Drinks(non-alcoholic of course!) and eating utensils will be furnished by the host post 221.
