A veteran- whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve-is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The "United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life".
That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

Thanks to all of you dedicated legionnaires, we were able to send six of the sharpest young men to the Georgia Boys State program in Statesborro we have seen in a long while. Be sure to put on your calendar the date, TBA, when they will be invited to share their experiences with all of us.

Our membership meetings have been picking up lately and the line up of speakers have been very informative. The time shared together is time we all value. In today’s world we are all very busy and have to prioritize our time. Let’s not forget that the memories and service stories we share are priceless. This is the value of membership. My hat’s off to Commander Sarris for his accomplishments this past year. Our membership goal was over the top. Our flag collection boxes are also over the top in that we have collected well over a 300 flags in a very short time. We hope to be able to have a flag retirement ceremony soon to show proper respect to the greatest flag in the world. If you have not located them, one is at the community church and the other is at city hall.

Your new officers for 2008-2009 are listed else were in this newsletter. Lets all show our support for them and all of our American Legion programs. I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks for your vote of confidence in voting me in again as your post commander. I pledge my support to you and as you advocate for veterans rights and benefits.

I’m looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the annual 4th of July parade. It has been a long time since we had a large turnout at a parade. Being visible in the community is part of giving back to our communities.

Thanks to all.
Charlie Tucker, Commander
