Just a reminder that November is the month where many events take place honoring veterans who sacrificed their all and for those currently serving and for those who have served. In looking at our events calendar you will find that the American Legion is promoting two parades in our area; one at Holly Springs and the other at Canton. Other communities will also have ceremonies and/or parades so check you local newspapers as well and make an effort to attend or participate if called to do so. Here are two events that Legionnaires and veterans are invited to attend. Arnold Mill School will be holding a program for Veterans on 9 Nov, anyone interested in attending will need to RSVP to Ms. Havens by 2 Nov at 770-516-9275 or . And…the Canton Moose Lodge is holding a dinner on 10 Nov at 1900 to honor Veterans, it is free to Veterans and their spouses. If interested, RSVP to Doyle Sims at 404-218-4974 .
Let me mention as well that the Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 316 will be having its bi-annual poppy drive on Saturday& Sunday, November 10th and 11th with volunteers at the Kroger in Towne Lake and at the Wal-Mart on Hwy 92 & Trickum Rd. You’ll see the ladies and post volunteers at these locations between the hours of 10AM and 3PM so stop by, say hello and pick up your poppy! Donations go directly to the veterans hospitals in Georgia.
As for membership renewals for the 2008 term our post has had an excellent response but we have noted that many of our legionnaires have yet to send in their renewals. Those of you who haven’t renewed should have received a 2nd notice in October and I believe the last one will be mailed in December. Don’t let this year pass by neglecting to show your continued support for the “worlds largest veterans organization”.
Stay tuned for the latest details concerning our upcoming Christmas party to be held jointly with Holly Springs Post 221 at their post home. Details will be posted in the events section of the newsletter and website.
And lastly don't forget the annual Christmas Jubilee, Saturday December 1. At 4:00pm, our holiday parade kicks off events, starting at the old WalMart and going north on Main Street through the Olde Town merchant district. It is immediately followed in the downtown City Park by Santa visiting children with their wish lists, our Mayor will announce the winners of best parade float trophies, Preservation Woodstock’s presentation of its Citizen of the Year award, and we end with the lighting of the Woodstock Christmas Tree. If you plan on riding with us on our parade entries please be at the WalMart no later than 3:30.
