"Excellence is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well"
DUES are DUE!While we’ve had a great response for our 2008 renewals reaching 88% of our goal in a relatively short period, many of you have not taken the time to continue your commitment to our great organization. Let’s get this out of the way as soon as possible and show your continued support of the American Legion. I might add that our post had a very successful fiscal/membership term( August 1, 2006 to July 31, 2007) participating and sponsoring our usual programs. Membership was up! While our membership attendance and participation was not what we had hoped we did get the job done with those dedicated members that chose to get involved! We expect to have an outstanding upcoming term and expect to see more membership involvement.
On the evening of September 7th , prior to the kick-off, veterans largely from our post were honored by Etowah High School at the dedication of their new football stadium and individually presented with a certificate of appreciation and a medallion of their respected military branch. Those of us who attended were greatly impressed and honored. There will be other events such as these in upcoming future and I urge all of you to make an effort to attend.
And speaking of future events the Cherokee County Republican Women’s Club will be presenting another “SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS” program on SATURDAY OCTOBER 20 , 10:30 AM at the HISTORIC HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM, 120 ACADEMY STREET. These ladies work hard to put on this program together and lining up dynamic speakers for the veterans and we can honor their efforts by attending. Our very own Charlie Tucker will be one of the featured speakers so let's help make this a great success!
It looks as though we will be having a combined Christmas party with Holly Springs Post 221 at their new home on December 23rd 6:00PM(1800) and will be a covered dish affair. We really look forward to enjoying an evening of fellowship with our post members and those of Holly Springs! We will post further details, address and directions in upcoming newsletters and website.
With Veterans Day and the Holidays approaching please stay tuned for upcoming events that will involve veterans’ programs as well as parades.
Elsewhere in this publication and website you will find a list of new members added to our roster. We have added some 21 new members either new or transferred in from other posts including 5 WW ll veterans. Excellent!
Finally: Don't forget our October 18th General Membership meeting at the Woodstock Family Restaurant which will feature guest speakers. All first time Post 316 attendees will have dinner on us!
